BISSELL Pet Foundation Airlifts Oklahoma Shelter Pets to a Second Chance

130+ pets from a hoarding case get a rescue flight to New England

More than 130 homeless cats and dogs, the majority from a large-scale neglect case in Oklahoma, will arrive by flight in Connecticut on Saturday, January 22, 2022. This lifesaving flight has been organized and funded by BISSELL Pet Foundation in partnership with Humane Society of Tulsa. Our trusted partner, Connecticut Humane Society, will be leading the ground team for unloading and distribution to other New England partners.

“We are seeing an increase in large-scale neglect cases in recent months. BISSELL Pet Foundation is committed to supporting organizations like Humane Society of Tulsa that are working in their community to ensure that pets like these get a second chance,” said Cathy Bissell, Founder of BISSELL Pet Foundation. “We are grateful to our partners who are making a difference in the lives of these pets by taking them into their programs so they can find
loving homes.”

Recently, Humane Society of Tulsa assisted local authorities in Osage County, Oklahoma, with more than 130 pets found to be living in filthy conditions. The pets were surrendered to the Humane Society of Tulsa and taken to their
facility, where they received immediate care.

“The conditions these pets were found in were absolutely devastating,” said Gina Gardner, President of Humane Society of Tulsa. “The best part of helping pets like these is watching them go from victims of neglect to loved
family members. We are grateful to the incredible shelters taking these pets into their programs and to BISSELL Pet Foundation for facilitating and funding their transfer.”

Pets from this flight will be relocated to the following shelters:

  • Connecticut Humane Society in Newington, CT
  • Dog Star Rescue, Bloomfield, CT
  • Potter League for Animals in Middletown, RI
  • Windham County Humane Society in Brattleboro, VT
  • MSPCA-Angell in Boston, MA
  • SPCA of Westchester County in Briarcliff Manor, NY
  • Central Vermont Humane Society of East Montpelier, VT

BISSELL Pet Foundation is committed to aiding animal welfare organizations in crisis. Large-scale neglect cases are taxing on shelters of all sizes, especially during the staffing issues that many are facing due to COVID. BISSELL Pet
Foundation provides emergency grant funding and works with its nationwide Shelter Alliance on crisis management and stabilization through animal welfare industry collaboration.
