May 10, 2026 – Bloomfield CT – Dog Star Rescue’s new home is getting closer and closer to the finish line, and we could not be more excited to share this next chapter with all of you.
The major construction projects are now complete, and these last few weeks have been focused on the fine details that are truly bringing the building to life. Every day, another piece comes together, and it is starting to feel less like a construction site and more like the future home our dogs, volunteers, fosters, and community deserve.
Star Gym Flooring
One of the biggest recent projects was installing the flooring in our STAR Gym, and we have to give an enormous thank you to our incredible volunteer work groups who tackled the project themselves. If you had seen the size and weight of the flooring rolls, you probably would have thought there was no way this team could pull it off, but they did. Watching volunteers come together to physically build this space with their own hands has been one of the most meaningful parts of this journey.
New Routines & Health Priorities
Behind the scenes, our leadership team has also been finalizing new transport and event day routines based on the completed layout of the building. Along the way, we made some exciting additions and adjustments, including surprising ourselves with the addition of a surgery suite. While it required us to reconfigure some of our original plans and space allocations, it will ultimately allow us to provide even better care for the dogs who come through our doors.
We also worked closely with local veterinarians to redesign and improve our quarantine area to ensure the most health focused protocols possible for incoming animals. Every decision has been made with safety, wellness, and long term sustainability in mind.
Next Steps Before Our Grand Opening
We are eagerly awaiting our Certificate of Occupancy from the town, which will officially allow us to begin this next chapter. We are also organizing workgroups to help complete the outdoor Star Yards with wood chips.
One of the things we are most excited about is how this larger space will transform our events and community programs. For years, so much of what we have done has depended on the weather and outdoor conditions. This new facility will allow us to host far more events indoors and create a more comfortable, welcoming environment year round. Of course, with spring finally here, you will still find plenty of our pups and fosters outside soaking up the sunshine while they wait for their forever families.
Making a Permanent Impact
We are also finalizing signage for all naming rights throughout the building. If you have already committed to a naming opportunity, stay tuned for an email from our fundraising team soon with next steps and details. If you would still like to leave your forever mark on Dog Star Rescue’s new home, there is still time. Please reach out to Nichole at [email protected] for more information.
This building has been built not just with concrete and construction equipment, but with passion, generosity, determination, and community support. We cannot wait to open the doors and welcome all of you inside 20 Northwood Dr. in Bloomfield CT.
