A Message to the Dog Star Rescue Community from Dan and Ellen McCabe

January 14, 2024: After founding Dog Star Rescue 10 years ago, Dan and Ellen McCabe have announced their plans to retire from the rescue in mid 2024 to pursue a lifelong dream of traveling the U.S. Their contributions to the rescue have been immeasurable and have had a profound impact on the lives of the 6,000+ dogs adopted through our rescue, their fellow volunteers and our communities.

The Board of Directors will continue to expertly lead this organization and has recently formed a search committee to find and elect a new Dog Star Rescue Executive Director and a Chief Operating Officer. We will also be working to identify a new Intake Director. This process will be seamless, with minimal impact on the day-to-day lives of most volunteers and no impact on adopters.

The strength of Dog Star has been the result of a collective effort, not just one or two individuals. Since the beginning, Dog Star has always been driven by a passionate and professional team of volunteers. These volunteers help guide rescue dogs towards brighter lives and this announcement in no way impacts the work our rescue does and our commitment to homeless and abandoned dogs. The dogs are counting on us all and there is so much work still to be done.

Dog Star Rescue is one of the most renowned and highly respected dog rescue organizations in the Northeast, and we will continue to put in the work required to help our communities and the dogs who deserve a better future. Please join us in thanking Dan & Ellen for their incredible work and dedication. And if you see them on the road, give them a friendly honk and wave your paws.

Dog Star Rescue is a licensed non-profit organization committed to rescuing homeless, stray and abandoned dogs from both local and out of state shelters, as well as owner surrender dogs. With the tireless work of our volunteers, we place these dogs in loving forever homes through our weekly adoption events. As an all-volunteer, foster-based non-profit, we rely on the generosity of partners and supporters like you to offset our operating costs. Learn more at DogStarRescue.org
