Bloomfield, CT – February 2, 2025 – After almost 11 incredible years of growth, Dog Star Rescue, CT’s largest, all-volunteer dog rescue, is thrilled to announce a major milestone in their journey to save as many dogs as possible. The rescue purchased its first building, located at 20 Northwood Rd in Bloomfield in November 2024!

The rescue grew quickly over the years and had outgrown its current rented facilities. This move will allow the organization to better meet the needs of dogs in their care, expand their operations, assist in community dog needs, and work toward the future of their mission. This is an exciting new chapter for Dog Star, and the rescue is looking for businesses and individuals who can help financially support the non-profit’s many needs.

The new headquarters is an 8,200-square-foot building that sits off the street on a tree-lined acre of land and is located on a quiet, industrial road. 20 Northwood is the perfect location to not only build out to the rescue’s specifications but also allow them to stay in the Bloomfield community that’s supported the rescue for so many years, while remaining centrally located for many of its adopting families and volunteers, too.

Dog Star Rescue has already found loving homes for over 7,000 dogs, thanks to the tireless efforts of our volunteers and the generosity of our supporters. With this new facility, the rescue can:

  • Provide even better care for the dogs they rescue.
  • Increase the number of dogs they save each year.
  • Enhance their ability to serve the community through programs like owner surrenders, Dog Star for Veterans Program, and Dog Gone Recovery for missing dogs.
  • Host low-cost veterinary clinics to support pet owners and their furry companions.

Dog Star Rescue is seeking financial support to directly contribute to the creation of its dream facility. From $250 for landscaping to $20,000 for a puppy room, every dollar counts toward creating spaces like kennels, adoption rooms, medical facilities, and play areas.  Every contribution, no matter the size, brings us one step closer to making this dream a reality.

Dog Star Rescue is excited to share that it has secured a $150,000 match grant from the Stich Charitable Foundation! That means every dollar donated during this matching period will be doubled. It’s the perfect opportunity to maximize contribution and make a meaningful difference in the lives of the dogs who depend on us.

Dog Star Rescue is deeply grateful to its loyal community of donors, volunteers, and supporters who have made Dog Star Rescue what it is today. Together, the local community can make this capital campaign a resounding success and ensure that our lifesaving work continues to thrive.
