Dog Star Heroes Program

Dog Star Rescue is proud to have a special adoption program for the everyday heroes among us:

  • Active duty military personnel and honorably discharged U.S. Armed Forces veterans 
  • First responders including:
    • Police officers
    • Firefighters
    • Emergency medical responders
    • Doctors and nurses

*Proof of military service with a U.S. Military ID Card will be required by all military applicants, designating an honorably discharged veteran if you’re not currently active.

About the Program

Qualified adopters will receive:

  • 50% off your adoption fee for veterans, active military members, and first responders (currently $250)
  • 100% of the adoption fee covered for disabled veterans (currently $500 for dogs over four months and under age seven)
  • 50% of the cost of one 6-week basic skills obedience training session covered (up to $200) with a pre-approved trainer

This program is our way of saying thank you to those who protect and serve, whether in our communities or abroad.

Dog Matchmaking for Heroes

Our Dog Star Heroes team works closely with qualified adopters to find the perfect rescue dog based on your lifestyle, home environment, and personality. We cannot guarantee any dog will be suitable as an emotional support animal, but our goal is to help bring healing, joy, and companionship to those who need it most.

  • Improve mental well-being
  • Motivate heroes to stay active and engaged with the world
  • Support disabled veterans as they transition to civilian life
  • Reduce feelings of loneliness, anxiety, and depression
  • Provide daily companionship and unconditional love
  • Help establish healthy routines and a sense of responsibility
  • Offer comfort during times of stress or emotional challenges
  • Strengthen social connections by encouraging interaction with others

Vaccination Clinics

We also offer 100% free dog and cat vaccination and wellness clinics for veterans as another way to give back. Dates and details for upcoming clinics will be posted on our Facebook and Instagram pages.
