Grant writers needed to write compelling applications to seek funding for the many projects and day-to-day operations of our rescue!

No experience needed – we have a supportive team and are happy to teach you as you go!  The volunteer positions are 100% from home, and you can take on as much or as little as your schedule allows. Key Responsibilities

  • Proactively reach out to local businesses and organizations across Connecticut to request sponsorships, raffle donations, or gift card contributions for Dog Star Rescue’s fundraising events
  • Conduct cold calls, send introductory emails, and stop by businesses in person to make donation requests
  • Professionally follow up with potential sponsors and donors via phone and email
  • Research and identify potential new sponsors and donors in various towns and counties
  • Maintain a well-organized tracking system to record outreach efforts, commitments, contact details, and previous donations
  • Work closely with Dog Star Rescue event leaders to align outreach with event needs and timelines
  • Help draft and send timely thank you notes or acknowledgment letters to all participating businesses
  • Work with the grants team lead to find grant-funding opportunities
  • Write compelling applications to seek funding for the many projects and daily operations of our rescue.
  • Work independently to find the information needed for applications on our Google Drive, or by working with various members of Dog Star’s leadership team

Preferred Qualifications

No experience required – we are happy to teach you as you go.   If you do have experience in grant writing or grant course work, that is certainly appreciated!

  • Problem resolution focused – seeks answers independently and enthusiastically
  • Demonstrates flexibility
  • Ability to work with diverse personalities and work well under pressure
  • Good time management skills
  • Work independently in a collaborative environment
  • Passionate about dogs, a basic understanding of caring for a dog, with the ability to interact positively with dogs of ALL breeds and sizes.
  • Computer literate with a working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, Google Meet, and Google Drive or the willingness to learn.

Time Commitment Per Month

As much as your schedule allows!  If you have limited capacity, take on one application at a time, with a rolling deadline.  If you have more time, take on as many as you’d like!   All grant writing can be done from your own home, on your own time.  We also have an hour-long team meeting once a month on Google Meet.
