CT Dog Gone Recovery (CTDGR) celebrated 10 years of helping owners with lost dogs. The organization was started, by chance, in 2013, when a rescue foster dog named Sassy went missing in Bristol. I led a group of people to help catch Sassy and as we searched for weeks, we learned about other dogs who were also running at large. After Sassy was caught with the assistance of her prior owner who we flew from Tennessee, the group decided to continue recovery operations to catch other dogs and Dog Gone Recovery was born.
Fast forward to now, the organization is the largest dog recovery agency in the state. CTDGR leaders use cameras, box traps, kennel traps, a drop net, a net gun, collarum for catching trap savvy dogs, and a partnership with a certified drone operator. In addition, CTDGR conducts multiple training sessions in the community and has been contracted again to train Animal Control Officers in recovery techniques for the continuing education.
The organization works closely with many of the state Animal Control Officers. This month, CTDGRV was nominated by state ACOs and awarded the 2023 Donald E. Nay Memorial Animal Control Volunteer Of The Year Award. This is quite an honor to receive from CT ACOs!
These are pictures of Carol Ferrucci, who lead reports to me, from CTDGR receiving the award from an ACO and a picture minus the ACO.
