Position Overview

The Marketing Coordinator role supports the Communications Team for Dog Star Rescue. The ideal volunteer will have:

  1. Good design skills. Working in Canva, be able to create graphics aligned with our established brand and tone. This includes social posts, email support, event support, limited print needs, and more.
  2. Flexibility. The marketing team supports every team at the rescue, so has to balance many demands while not overloading the public with messaging. While we work against a defined plan, a level of flexibility is required as priorities change, dog inventory changes, and we need to be able to adapt quickly.
  3. Core marketing skillset. Experience with marketing is a huge plus. The team supports public relations, event marketing, email marketing, social media marketing and more. Each team member has a different skillset and determines where they have the most interest in helping out each week or for special longer-term needs.

Time Commitment per week

  • 2-5 hours (this includes creating at least 1-2 social posts a week, attending a meeting every 6 weeks and regularly checking emails).
  • Attending adoption events is optional but highly encouraged since meeting the dogs you are marketing is very important.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Excellent written communication skills – with excellent proofreading skill set too.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills if you will be supporting our external communications needs (e.g., media interviews).
  • Ability to work with diverse personalities and work well under pressure.
  • The desire to interface with all many teams at the rescue including volunteering, fostering, events, fundraising, adoption, kennel and more.
  • Problem escalation to leadership
  • Good time management skills.
  • Computer literate with a working knowledge of Canva and Google Docs.

Working conditions

  • If at events, dress casually knowing you will get covered in dog kisses, dog hair and probably mud. Closed toe shoes and long hair up is a must.
  • Remote work, with access to a laptop, tablet, internet, and the phone.

Benefits

Personal satisfaction knowing you are helping address a nationwide problem while spending significant time each week helping guide dogs to a wonderful new life. And unlimited dog kisses of course.
